What are you reading right now?

My current read is The SAS in Ireland by Raymond Murray. It's an enormous book, and scholarly as well as anecdotal. The period it deals with is about 1969 to 1990, and although the war in the North is the main focus, it also deals with incursions into the south by the SAS, and murders committed there, including the Dublin/Monaghan bombings. (I haven't read that part thoroughly, so I'm not certain what connection the SAS had with it.)

If you wanted a potted history of the objectives of the British government regarding Ireland in the latter half of the last century, or indeed a summary of its imperialist counter-insurgency strategy to date, you could do worse than to read this.

I'm currently reading The Amateur Marriage by Anne Tyler. It tells the story of the rocky marriage between Michael and Pauline, whose rash wedding during World War II leads to a dissatisfying life. Almost finished, I like her narrative style but a bit underwhelmed by the story. Something pretty big has to happen to redeem it for me.
